How do you pronounce Liro?
First things first:
Liro is pronounced Lee-ROH
The name began as a word I completely made up by combining our children's names "Li" (Lily) and "Ro" (Ronan). I guess I needed to be reminded what inspired me to start a business amidst the chaos, sleep deprivation, and joy of raising little humans. Once I came up with it, I did what any responsible business owners would do. I looked it up on Urban Dictionary and scoured the internet for any hidden meaning. What I eventually found, with the help of friends, was that liro means sandpiper in Finnish. Sweet, harmless and fitting for an Alaskan-based business. But here’s where we take a left turn. One night, around 10 pm, I sent an email to my marketing consultant confidently announcing that liro meant a sandhill crane…which it does not. So I guess this is what happens when you are sitting in a cozy rocking chair, nursing your baby while trying to build a business from your phone in the middle of the night. Makes me sleepy just thinking of it.But by the time I had realized my mistake, it didn’t feel like something that needed to be corrected. It felt like one of those funny little accidents that somehow lands exactly where it belongs. Isn’t life lovely when it works out like that?So our logo of dancing sandhill cranes is beautiful, distinctive and deeply personal. And every time something doesn’t go exactly how I planned, I smile, thinking of this happy accident that represents us so perfectly. And I hope that maybe when you see it, you'll also see the beauty in life's accidents and remember to laugh a bit when life goes a bit unexpected. So yes, LIRO is pronounced LEE-roh. It’s a made up combination of our kids names, a Finnish sandpiper and, thanks to one very late night sleepy email, a sandhill crane. Our happy accident is a reminder that sometimes life’s biggest blessings begin as complete mistakes. Can’t wait to see you soon in the studio!P.S. If you love our logo as much as we do, you can have a little piece of it on our Liro merch. Stop by for a peek!
